Client Story: Hope of a Better Future
When you look around, you will find people that have luxury houses and others who have nothing to live in. Sobira Shanieva was a woman that always dreamed of having her own house - but the harsh reality was different.
Together, with her husband Rajabmurod, they worked hard to improve their living conditions. They bred animals, but that was barely enough to cover living expenses, let along save money. So, when they heard about HUMO loans, they decided to apply for their first loan.
In September 2007, they formed a credit group and she received a loan of 1,500TJS (or $438). Using that money, she bought a few goats and sheep. They would feed the animals and every two weeks, then sell the "fatty" ones and buy new ones. Within 5 months, the loan was repaid and the rest of the money was used to purchase materials for construction of their house.
The second time, Sobira Shanieva took out a loan for 2,500 TJS ($730) and bought a cow for milking. She would sell the milk to the neighbors and make a little profit. Using that money, they bought slate, cement and sand for their future house.
Finally, the third loan was for a total of 4,000 TJS ($1,170) and was used to purchase more small animals for breeding.
The profit made from that allowed them to start the construction. As it's common in the area, the house was built using clay and was put at the top of the hill. There were some problems along the way, but they finished the construction in late Autumn. However, the interior decorations will have to wait until Spring and the next loan.
As Sobira says: "I hope that our cooperation with HUMO will continue and will help us achieve our future goals. When your staff visits us, we are glad to see them as it was because of them, that we were able to improve our living conditions. We are proud to work with you!"
